Dolls

5" x 7" Graphite drawings on paper

The doll drawings evolved from my practice of drawing everyday objects. I selected play toys for their potential as signifiers for various sociological concerns. Some of the drawings are observations of human behavior; others are portraits of pop culture icons such as Barbie and Ken. Still other drawings are representations of toys from an adult perspective, putting them into a context to suggest various vulnerabilities that may exist for a child. I enjoyed working with the series and saw them as informal expressions for rather weighty issues.
